Planning a marquee wedding in Cornwall

Marquee weddings offer the perfect blank canvas for putting your own stamp on your wedding and are a great chance to get creative – but planning a marquee wedding in Cornwall comes with it’s very own set of complexities that need to be taken into consideration. Planning a marquee wedding in Cornwall, 5 top tips on where to start!

Marquee in Cornwall

1 Find your site

The appeal for marquee weddings in Cornwall is that you can pitch up at your chosen site looking out over an epic view and be totally exclusive, however, there are a few details to take into consideration beforehand. Once you’ve narrowed down a few locations, go and visit them and meet with the owner and chat through your requirements. Before you commit see if the site is easily accessible and the ground is suitable. Read the T&C’s just to make sure there is nothing in the small print regarding access or restrictions to noise or fireworks for example. You may also opt for a marquee wedding in your own gardens or land. This is a great way to personalise the day but be aware that you’re going to have a week or so of preparation in the run-up to your wedding and in the days afterward too, so make sure everyone involved is happy and be prepared for a little damage to lawns and drives.

2. Check the price!

This may surprise some of you but yes there will be a charge for you to set up camp. Prices for fields do vary and will depend on location and setting. Ask what’s included in this price as they may include an outbuilding or toilet access.  Check the length of time the fee is valid. There may be hidden costs for an early setup or late checkout. This is often a cost that gets overlooked so be prepared to add this to your marquee budget.

3. Consider the practicalities

Considering the practicalities of your marquee wedding in Cornwall is super important, especially if you’re holding your wedding at home. Is there access to the marquee site for your suppliers and their vehicles? Is there access to a power source or will you need to hire a generator – if you do, where will this be placed? Where can post wedding waste be disposed of? Where will your guests park? Is there running water nearby for your caterers? Is there nearby accommodation for your guests and where will you hold your ceremony? I did warn you that there was A LOT more to consider, right?

4. Think about the design

What works with the style of wedding that you are planning? Do you want one big space or would you like separate areas or zones? Where will your dancefloor and bar go? Round or trestle tables? Do you prefer carpet, coir or hard floor? Each and every one of your choices will have a cost implication so it’s worth thinking through your options in advance and then being prepared to be flexible or agree to compromise on things that aren’t a top priority. Then think about the marquee structure. There is so much choice now so take your time and really think about the look and feel of your marquee and make sure it’s right. Other details to think about are lighting, decor, staging, and let’s not forget the weather!

5. Choose a marquee company

With so much choice available it’s hard to know what marquee company to choose. Do your research and check out their website for reviews, previous weddings, and the styles you are looking for. Give them a call! Give them the basics including your wedding date, guest numbers, and requirements. Some companies may want to do a site visit, however, the best marquee companies have more than likely already delivered a wedding at your location and be familiar with the layout and conditions of the ground.

Planning a marquee wedding in Cornwall

Choosing a marquee wedding is such a popular choice and there are endless things you can include. As a wedding planner in Cornwall, I would certainly advise hiring some help even if it’s just on the day or being involved with the preparation. There is A LOT to organise and A LOT to do and details can often be underestimated especially the time it takes to set up. Coordinating suppliers for a marquee wedding in Cornwall can be a tricky task. Ensuring that your caterer has everything they need, to knowing your restrictions for your hanging floral installations. All this aside I LOVE marquee weddings and as much as the workload can be intense they are so much fun and the transformation is so rewarding!
